These two authors are
artists of the "story-telling" cookbook...
If you are from the
Greatest Generation, you'll love this book. It will take you
right back to the 40's with its song lyrics, period recipes,
and delightful reminiscences and photographs.
If you're from the Baby Boomer Group, you'll enjoy reading
about these things from your parents' early days--things you
probably remember hearing about as you grew up.
If you're a member of Gen-X--give or take--you'll find these
recipes and tales from Grandma and Grandpa's early days
fun--and maybe even "food" for some interesting
conversations about them when they were your age.
I've given it as a gift to people of widely-differing ages,
and they all love it. This is great reading, not just a
cookbook!

This unique cookbook, compiled by two
"children of the 40's" is a delight to read page by page.
World War II era recipes are grouped in the usual way,
appetizers and snacks, soups & salads, main meals,
casseroles, side dishes, desserts & more. Each section is
introduced by a first hand "memory" from friends and
relatives of the authors that are sure to trigger some of
your own.
Recipes are taken directly from Grandma's recipe box
complete with suggested variations, warnings, e.g. "keep an
eye on them" and original language, e.g. "melt Crisco in
skillet." Many of the recipes transported me to my
Grandmother's and our family dining table (Citrus Avocado
Salad, Chipped Beef on Toast), but even to my school lunch
box(Bacon Cheese Sandwich Spread)!
Each recipe page is embellished with World War II era song
lyrics, facts, lists, and household tips that are guaranteed
to elicit smiles and nostalgia for the "good old days"
which, if truth be told, weren't always so "good."
I look forward to more books from this talented team.

I was really surprised
at the amount of time necessary to research this book and
overall content of the book. It reads like a novel and was
very interesting. The stories very heartfelt and moving. We
liked the music and movie reviews also.
Very well put together. You did a great job.

"As Time Goes By" is a
most delightful cookbook. A combination of World War II
history, trivia, song lyrics, personal reminiscences, old-timey
illustrations and, of course, recipes this cookbook truly
has something for everyone.
The cookbook opens with "Sentimental Journeys" where a B-24
bombardier/gunner and chaplain's assistant, among others,
share their stories. The long-lasting marriages that were
forged after only months of acquaintance are especially
poignant. Blurbs on "Pepsodent," "Role of Spam in the War,"
and plot synopses of movies such as "Hollywood Canteen" and
"Mrs. Miniver" add a fun touch.
And the recipes...ah, the recipes: ice box pickles,
hamburger pie, stuffed cabbage, rice pudding and buttermilk
cake...comfort food was the order of the day.
I think "As Time Goes By" is not only a good cookbook to
have handy, but makes a perfect gift from Baby Boomer kids
to their "Greatest Generation" parents.

with the picture of the chair. It takes a lot for me to get
choked up over something but that really did it.
Such wonderful stories. God bless you both for
your hard work. Ann Marie - Colorado Springs, Colorado

I just wanted to tell
you both how wonderful your cookbook is.
It reads like a novel and so many interesting
stories. I love the music and movie trivia too. The pictures
on the back cover of your mothers says a lot about you both
and what wonderful people you are. Thank you! I love the
book.

I finally took the time to sit down and go thru the cookbook
from cover to cover and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed
it. I chuckled, I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my
throat, and
I took a lot of trips down Memory Lane.
The Wilted
Spinach Salad
was something my Mom used to make and the chipped beef on
toast was a staple at our house. And Sea Foam Frosting! Oh
how my brother and I used to fight over who got to lick the
bowl when Mom made that. So, I think you can tell that I
thoroughly enjoyed the book. Thanks for putting it together!

Yes, it's a great book!
The day I received it, I spent all afternoon looking over it
- and over - and over.
The stories are wonderful and some brought tears to my eyes,
of course. The recipes are interesting - made me chuckle.
You gals did a tremendous job - your efforts were all worth
while and I do hope the sale is going well!

I received my copy of the cookery book,
thank you very much. Not only the recipes but some of the
stories from WWII vets are really fascinating and my husband
is very much enjoying those. I shall have to work my way
through the entire book and see if I can cook up some of the
recipes.
You have done a great job and I much appreciate you
sending it to me.
